Camilla Hole Trio is the original and more intimate and flexible version of the band, both musically and in terms of concert format. The arrangements are more characterized by spontaneity and improvisation, where the trio playfully explores the many tunes they have in their shared repertoire.

Utgangspunktet for trioen er at folkemusikken ikkje berre er ein del av fortida, men ei levande kraft som òg tilhøyrer framtida. Camilla Hole Trio skaper musikk som er ei bru mellom tradisjon og nyskaping, der dei tek vare på og fører vidare den rike arven av folkemusikken.
Med utgjevingane Halvemål (2018), og bestillingsverket Eventyrferd (2023) – der trioen var utvida med Torstein Slåen og Sigrid Moldestad – har dei utvikla eit heilt særegent musikalsk uttrykk.
Tittelen på debutalbumet deira, Halvemål, refererer til eit merkeleg språklig fenomen som finst i visse norske dialektar, der bokstaven H fjernast frå nokre ord og blir lagt til først i andre. Denne leikne omstokkinga av bokstavar har inspirert trioen sin tilnærming til musikken. Akkurat som Halvemål skapar ein særprega måte å snakke på – eller til og med eit “Alvemål” – omformar trioen tradisjonell folkemusikk, og vev det inn i eit livleg, improvisatorisk univers for å skape sitt eige musikalske Halvemål.
På det nye albumet, som kjem i 2026, har trioen samla slåttar og melodiar som har følgt dei lenge og som betyr mykje for dei som utøvarar. Her er formene meir tradisjonelle enn på førre album, men lydbiletet er heilt unikt: hardingfeleslåttar får nytt liv på saksofon og vibrafon, sjøfløytetonar kling side om side med mikrotonale synthklangar – som om desse instrumenta alltid har høyrt saman. Slik løftar trioen fram tradisjonen i eit klangleg univers ingen har høyrt desse slåttane i før.
Camilla Hole Trio har tidlegare mellom anna hatt fleire turnéar på vestlandet, spelt i folkemusikkens "storstove" Riksscenen, representert Norge på Nordic Folk Alliance i Gøteborg og komt ut med plata «Halvemål» med tilbakemeldingar som: «Trioen har fått inn en fulltreffer med debutplata, et kreativt sjangermøte mellom improvisasjonsjazz og folkemusikk» Magnus Andersson, magasinet Folkemusikk.

The trio is built on the belief that folk music is not just rooted in the past but belongs to the future – a tradition to be carried forward and reimagined.
With their debut album Halvemål (2018), and the commissioned work Eventyrferd (2023) – where the trio was joined by Torstein Slåen and Sigrid Moldestad – they have developed a highly distinctive musical identity.
The title of their debut album, Halvemål, refers to a curious linguistic phenomenon found in certain Norwegian dialects, where the letter H is dropped from some words and added to others, resulting in a unique speech pattern. This playful reshuffling of elements inspired the trio’s approach to their music. Just as Halvemål creates a distinctive way of speaking – or even a "Fairy Language" (Alvemål in Norwegian) – the trio reshapes traditional folk music, weaving it into a vibrant, improvisatory universe to create their own musical Halvemål.
Their forthcoming 2026 album gathers traditional tunes and melodies that have long been close to them as performers. While the structures are more faithful to folk tradition than on their previous record, the sound world is unique: Hardanger fiddle tunes are reborn through saxophone and vibraphone, seaflute-inspired tones meet the textures of modular synths – as if these instruments had always belonged together. In this way, the trio reveals tradition in a sonic universe where these tunes have never been heard before.
Camilla Hole Trio has toured extensively in Norway, performed at venues such as Riksscenen (the National Hub for Folk Music and Dance in Oslo), represented Norway at Nordic Folk Alliance in Gothenburg, and received praise for their debut:
